SUMMARY:Incarnational Hermeneutic: Reading the Text Through the Eyes of Jesus
DESCRIPTION:Miss this workshop? Scroll down to watch the recording and see shared resources. \nHermeneutics is the art of interpretation. Traditional fields such as law and social sciences\, along with theology\, rely on hermeneutics to make sense of\, or interpret the meaning of source material. Biblical hermeneutics\, likewise\, focus on principles for interpreting Scripture. \nWhen it comes to Biblical interpretation\, we believe the question isn’t\, “What does the text say?” The question is\, “Through whose eyes do we read the text?” \nJesus’ response to the many questions he is asked throughout Scripture is a daring act of interpretation. In fact\, Jesus is revealed throughout the Gospels not as just another interpreter of sacred texts\, but as the very Presence of God who is\, for us\, a living hermeneutic. \nThis workshop based on the resource Incarnational Hermeneutic: Reading the Text Through the Eyes of Jesus and is part of a suite of resources dedicated to operationalizing a vision of what we call a “Community in Mission” (CiM) that is modeled after the life of Jesus. Together we will explore the living hermeneutical presence of Jesus that helps leaders of a CiM teach and preach Good News based on a God in whom there is no violence and who is in rivalry with no one\, not even death.  \nWho should attend: This event is open to everyone. For those who applied to be part of the Preaching Peace Facilitators Table\, this a helpful onramp to the hermeneutic that will be used for the Preaching Peace Initiative. This workshop will also be especially useful to those who are Ordained with SP. \nResource: Incarnational Hermeneutic: Reading the Text Through the Eyes of Jesus > \nListen to three talks by James Alison: \n\nPracticing a Living Hermeneutic with James Alison (on Acts 1:6-11; Acts 2:1-8; see referenced text here)\n\nListen here\n\n\nPracticing a Living Hermeneutic with James Alison (on John 15:26 -16:15; see referenced text here)\n\nListen here\n\n\nPracticing a Living Hermeneutic with James Alison (on Acts 10:1-48; see referenced text here)\n\nListen here\n\n\n\nWatch the recording of the workshop: \n \nView the slides (PDF) > \nResources mentioned in the chat:\n–Reading the Bible with the Damned by Bob Ekblad\n–Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise in Hope by Esau McCauley\n–God of the Oppressed by James Cone\n–First Nations Version: An Indigenous Bible Translation of the New Testament by Terry M.
