SUMMARY:Workshop: An Incarnational Hermeneutic
DESCRIPTION:Hermeneutics is the art of interpretation. Traditional fields such as law and social sciences\, along with theology\, rely on hermeneutics to make sense of\, or interpret the meaning of source material. Biblical hermeneutics\, likewise\, focus on principles for interpreting Scripture. \nWhen it comes to Biblical interpretation\, we believe the question isn’t\, “What does the text say?” The question is\, “Through whose eyes do we read the text?” This question is important because it defines the result of the interpretative experience. If we dare to read the Bible through the eyes of a God in whom there is no violence\, a God who is in rivalry with nothing\, not even death\, we will find out that Scripture is good news for the most vulnerable of this world. In addition\, we will find ourselves in the hands of a God who speaks through the Bible to reveal humanity’s violence for what it is: our futile efforts to create peace. \nJesus’ response to the many questions he is asked throughout Scripture is a daring act of interpretation. In fact\, Jesus is revealed throughout the Gospels not as just another interpreter of sacred texts\, but as the very Presence of God who is\, for us\, a living hermeneutic. \nIn this workshop\, we will spend our time together in conversation and application in your context. We will focus on what it means to read scripture through the eyes of the forgiving victim\, and what the implications are for incarnational leaders. \nBefore the workshop\, please complete the following:\n– Read Module 2 in the See.Do.Be.Free. book OR the Incarnational Hermeneutic resource\n– If you have not already\, please watch the Workshop Introduction video\n– Listen to the Incarnational Hermeneutic Workshop introduction: \nhttps://streetpsalms.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Hermeneutic-Workshop-Intro.mp3\n  \nAs you read and listen to the items listed above\, here are a few questions to keep in mind that we will be reflecting on together at the workshop:\n– What new ideas come to mind? How has that shaped you? \nAfter the workshop\, we encourage you to complete the corresponding online course: Introduction to the Incarnational Hermeneutic.
