Community Rhythms
Join us in daily, weekly, and monthly rhythms where we practice doing theology from below, remember our shared vocation, and induct each other into our collective humanity.
Daily Prayer
Join our global community in daily prayer. The digital version of our prayer bead guide is designed to help the Street Psalms community embody our shared vocation and animate our charism of “seeing and celebrating good news in hard places.” Its structure is simple. The prayer beads begin and end at the cross. Six large beads mark the contemplative movements of the prayer: Centering Prayer, See, Do, Be, Free, and the Prayer of Vocation. Small beads indicate specific prayers or reflections within each movement. Contained within the loop of the prayer beads is the “rule” of our community – the questions we hold in common.
Weekly Gospel Lectionary Resources
We follow the three-year Revised Common Lectionary cycle. We are currently in Lent, Year A:
Our lectionary resources are rooted in perspectives “from below” that embrace abundance and peacemaking. Each week, we offer the gospel text, context, question, community reflections, homily from James Alison, a Girardian reflection, poetry, prayer, and devotionals.
This Week's Lectionary:
Fifth Sunday in Lent – Year A
Welcome to the Fifth Sunday in Lent. This week, we find ourselves in a tomb with Lazarus… dead. Not dying, but dead. Four days gone dead. Dead-dead. And then we hear a voice…
In 1974 Earnest Becker won a Pulitzer Prize for his book, The Denial of Death. Becker argued that human civilization is largely built on the fear of death and our attempt to avoid it. What we call “civilization,” he called an “immortality project” — a fear-driven effort to outrun the inevitable. After all, 99.9% of us are terrified of what 100% of us will experience. The rest are in denial. Becker insisted that the modern death-denying culture is ultimately death-dealing.
Weekly Preaching Peace Table
The Preaching Peace Initiative is designed for leaders who are exploring together what it means to teach and preach a liberating Gospel of peace in their city. We currently have two models of Preaching Peace Tables that are open source and available to anyone who wants to develop their own expression: Citywide Table and Church/Ministry Table. Learn more about hosting your own table here.
Street Psalms hosts a weekly table for leaders who facilitate Preaching Peace Tables (or are interested in starting a Table). We gather around the gospel lectionary text to practice doing theology from below. All are welcome to join.

Monthly Commons Gathering
A monthly service hosted by and for the ordained community, dedicated to remembering our common call to develop incarnational leaders for the sake of the city and the most vulnerable. This service seeks to cultivate community and pathways to formational opportunities, and is open to anyone who wishes to attend. The Commons is on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
