Workshop: Becoming a Community in Mission

The Becoming a Community in Mission resource is designed for the leadership of faith communities who want to create the conditions for human flourishing, embodying the very thing they desire to see in the world, and who are interested in exploring questions like, “What are the emerging social structures that will help form, shape and model the kind of humanity that leads to human flourishing? What kinds of communities can hold difference and create the conditions for everyone to belong, especially the most vulnerable?”
We refer to this type of organization as a Community in Mission (CiM). Such a community can take many forms, such as a local church, a non-profit organization, a public or private venture, or even a network. It can be Christ-centered, or rooted in other faith traditions. We celebrate all its forms. However, throughout this workshop (and all Street Psalms resources) we explore what a community mission looks like when rooted within the Christian tradition and committed to the common good as modeled by Jesus.
In this workshop, we will spend our time together in conversation and application in your context. We will focus on the movement from a system of sacrifice to a system of mercy. This is the core difference between a Community in Mission and a non-Community in Mission.
Before the workshop, please complete the following:
– Watch the Workshop Introduction video
– Read Module 1 in the See.Do.Be.Free. book OR the Becoming a Community in Mission resource
– Listen to the Becoming a Community in Mission Workshop introduction:
As you read and listen to the items listed above, here are a few questions to keep in mind that we will be reflecting on together at the workshop:
– What do you notice?
– What new ideas come to mind?
– What questions do you have?
After the workshop, we encourage you to complete the corresponding online course: Introduction to Becoming a Community in Mission. The online course is self-paced and includes recorded videos and reflection questions.
Who should attend: This event is open to everyone, regardless of registration in any seminary program. This workshop is part of the curriculum of the Incarnational Leadership Program at the Street Psalms Seminary. Register to join the Seminary community here >
