Workshop: Incarnational Design

The Incarnational Design resource is part of a suite of resources that help faith communities cultivate human flourishing in their context. Key to realizing this vision is what we call a Community in Mission (CiM) that has a way of seeing, doing and being that frees it to love and serve. When modeled after the life of Jesus, a CiM exists, not for itself, but for the sake of the commons. CiMs are animated by the spiritual technology of the Incarnation, mystery of Word made flesh. In this resource, we apply that technology to the creative process we call Incarnational Design. Incarnational Design describes the creative partnership between God and a CiM. This partnership engages in the ongoing act of creation by developing models of social innovation that lead to human flourishing.
In this workshop, we feature the practice of Incarnational Design and its impact on the creational task of a community in mission, applied to your context. In the incarnational design chapter of the See.Do.Be.Free. book, we describe design phases and principles that help leaders with this type of process. However, we want to be clear: developing the capacity to participate in Incarnational Design has little to do with talent or skill. It mostly has to do with the desire to discern the move of the Spirit with a community in a given context. For that reason, much of the workshop’s focus will center on how we can practice this art of discernment.
Before the workshop, please complete the following:
– Read Module 4 in the See.Do.Be.Free. book OR the Incarnational Design resource
– If you have not already, please watch the Workshop Introduction video
– Listen to the Incarnational Design Workshop introduction:
As you read and listen to the items listed above, here are a few questions to keep in mind that we will be reflecting on together at the workshop:
– What new ideas come to mind? What questions do you have?
– How have you experienced the process of discernment as an individual? Within the context of a community?
After the workshop, we encourage you to complete the corresponding online course: Introduction to Incarnational Design. The online course is self-paced and includes recorded videos and reflection questions.
Who should attend: This event is open to everyone, regardless of registration in any seminary program. This workshop is part of the curriculum of the Incarnational Leadership Program at the Street Psalms Seminary. Register to join the Seminary community here >
