Workshops
Designed to help realize the vision of creating cities of peace for all people where everyone belongs, especially the most vulnerable.
We regularly offer workshops as part of a conversation designed for leaders who want to cultivate faith communities for the sake of their city and the most vulnerable. We hope that these workshops help leaders work towards creating cities of peace for all people – that is our mission at Street Psalms.
All of the workshops are open to all who wish to join us, regardless of if you are in any of the Incarnational Leadership Program tracks.
About the Workshops
Each year, we host five different workshops connected to one of five core documents written by the Street Psalms community. These documents have also been bound into a single book, “See, Do, Be, Free: A liberating resource for communities called to love and serve.” We recommend that before attending each workshop, you read and reflect on the corresponding chapter as a means of preparing yourself for the workshop conversations.
We frequently use the word “incarnational” to describe the process of formation. To the extent that virtual gatherings permit, we are hopeful that the workshops, too, can have incarnational rhythms and practices, one where we build relationships and undergo this type of formation in community and over time. For that reason, we do not plan to “teach” the material during the workshops – we expect that by reading the preparatory chapter you will become familiar with the basic terms and ideas. Instead, we think it will be of maximum benefit for us to have large and small group conversations related to some aspect of the workshop’s topic area. We will also be discussing with each other what it means to apply or experiment with these ideas in our own contexts.
Finally, we remember that incarnational formation is a long game. We don’t expect any one workshop, any one book or chapter, any single experience or conversation to produce incarnational leadership. We never master the material nor do we “teach” or “learn” in the conventional sense of these words. Rather, these workshops simply offer one more way to have a conversation with others who are likewise leaning into cultivating systems of mercy in their contexts. Spanish poet Antonio Machado observed that “we make the road by walking”. We hope that the workshops can be but a small step on that road.
We regularly offer workshops on a variety of topics; all workshops are free and open to all. These workshops are part of a conversation designed for leaders who want to cultivate faith communities for the sake of their city and the most vulnerable. All of these workshops represent the distillation of what we have learned as a community and serve as the core curriculum of the Seminary.
